Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as exercise, manual manipulation, and modalities rather than by drugs or surgery.

Land Physical Therapy

Land Physical Therapy was added to Oconee Regenerative and Joint (ORJ) in the Fall of 2021 to better assist all patients toward meeting all their goals of reduced pain and gains in function. Physical Therapy is now included in the patient’s Plan of Care due to the company’s research findings. It is proven that longer lasting results for arthritic symptoms occurs if a client agrees to participate in all three opportunities at ORJ including a Physical Therapy regimen, wears the unloading brace with activity and completes the series of joint injections. Each of these components provides a piece of support toward return to function that can not be achieved if only one or two pieces are chosen. Therefore, for the patient’s best results ORJ expects each participant to complete a physical therapy session each time they receive an injection.

Oconee Regenerative and Joint is an outpatient clinic and can treat joints that are not part of the injection series. Therefore, participants can attend therapy sessions when they are not coming for injections including arm, neck, hip, back and foot pain. It is highly beneficial to continue PT after the injection series is completed in 3-6wks. To reach all goals, each patient’s Plan of Care is open for at least 12 weeks for patients to continue working on their specific needs. Each session is tailored to the patient’s ability level and progresses at a pace that fits their needs. Treatments can include exercises in seated, lying and standing positions with use of weights, resistance bands and balance mediums. Manual mobility provided by the therapist is provided as needed for both joint and soft tissue mobility. Physical Therapy sessions are around 45min-1 hour. All joint pain is addressed upon evaluation and carried out in the following scheduled sessions.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy is offered on Fridays at Georgia Aquatic Center (GAC) only 6 minutes away from our ORJ building at 1545 South Bishop Farms Pkwy Watkinsville, GA 30677. This is an opportunity to exercise in a 90 degree pool without joint loading. Patients will be in the water with Heather Halsey leading them in exercises that are similar to land therapy.

Benefits of Aquatic Therapy

  • Resistance of the water naturally makes muscles work harder
  • Hydrostatic pressure helps increase circulation and decrease swelling
  • The movement of the water helps enhance reaction time, muscle strength and sensory awareness which in turn helps improve balance and coordination.
  • Water reduces pressure on the joints = weight bearing stress and decreases inflammation.

DeAnna Brubaker, MPT

DeAnna is originally from Augusta, GA and moved to Oconee County from the Atlanta area in 2021 with her husband and 3 kids. She received her Bachelors in Exercise Physiology 2000 prior to attending Georgia State Physical Therapy School graduating in 2004.
